Invisible Shame
I slowly turn and look behind me.
When my eyes fall upon nothing living,
I turn back.
She's staring directly at me.
Can she see me?
She must! Her vibrant eyes, bright like the sun glistening on the ocean waves,
Pierce through me.
She sees me.
She takes a step towards me and my breathing stops.
I cannot even begin to fathom how this is possible.
I've been invisible for oh so long.
I can't take my eyes off of her.
She sees me,
Maybe she can help me too.
She's feet away from me.
I can sense her guilt, her hopes, her fears.
Almost within arms reach now...
As I open my mouth to speak to my savior,
She passes right through me.
She stops momentarily as waves of my energy course through her veins.
Then she continues on her way as though nothing had happened.
My faith and hope subsides.
I knew it was far too good to be true.
My "savior" could not see me.
But what could you expect?
You cannot see a ghost.
