Winter's Unforgiving
I planned to spend maybe an hour here,
in this small town where, as my dad
without fail always reminds me
"no one gets by accident"
but that hour passed, then another
and day turned to day turned to weeks
before my eyes, and there you were
in this glorious shade of guiltless
youth, somewhere outside of this prison
in which I had been trapped
and the rain came, my skin was soaked;
this most spectacular failure fell upon me
in the most beautiful of ways.
