Life's Little Clichés, Clichés
Haven’t you heard?
We are predictable, I know,
Not much is genuine, real, and the rest-
Are just life’s little clichés, clichés.
Cause we’re all fish out of water
And told not to meddle
In the affairs of dragons.
Cause blood is thicker than water
But water tastes so much better,
And pride came before the fall--
Yet we all jumped the gun.
And it’s so cliché, cliché.
Though that’s okay, since
The grass is greener on the other side.
And it’s common knowledge, yes, that
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,
Denial’s not just a river in Egypt,
The pen is mightier than the sword,
The cake is a lie,
And you know what happens
When we assume.
And it’s so cliché, cliché.
So liar liar, your pants are on fire,
And at the drop of a hat,
The blondes will have more fun.
And if a black cat crosses your path
Quickly knock on wood
Cause those with green thumbs
Are just peas in a pod with those
Who led the horse to water.
And it’s so cliché, cliché.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
And only skin deep.
And some are still bigot enough
To oppose the Love
That dare not speak it’s name.
And it’s so cliché, cliché.
You’re the apple of my eye, and
I’m head over heels,
But I didn’t fall for you--I tripped.
So let’s bury the hatchet, for
Annabelle Lee and her Telltale Heart.
And it’s so cliché, cliché.
Because according to Shakespeare, a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet,
And the path of true love
Never did run smooth.
Et tu, Brute?
And it’s so cliché, cliché.
It’s eleven-eleven let’s make a wish
And if at first you don’t succeed
Carpe. Diem.
And it’s so cliché, cliché.
So in the end it’s all a riddle
Wrapped up in an enigma--
Tied off with silken mysteries--
Locked in a gilded cage of questions--
And the rest…
Are just life’s little clichés, clichés.
