A New Heaven
give me a heaven i can believe in
and i will tear this one down like strips of wallpaper,
false angels wedged beneath my fingertips
my hands are destructive
but my heart is good
and visions of
stars harps clouds wings
bring me no comfort since you left
i don’t want you to fly
i want you to stand here beside me—
—that’s a heaven without cruelty
where i can keep you with me and feel no guilt
a heaven where our feet stay planted on the ground
a heaven where
death isn’t the price of admission.
