Burkha
There is no reason to breathe,
there are no trees.
There is no reason to look,
there are no colors.
There is no reason to think,
for the black gown will swallow me up,
and spit me out dry.
I have no emotions,
for the black will feel for me.
I have no mouth,
for the black will speak for me.
The gown represents my future,
my former life no longer has meaning.
I can't look back,
there are no memories behind me.
the walls to freedom are disintegrating.
I have become a grain of sand,
fallen in a sea of desert.
I'm behind the door,
where no one sees me.
I look like everyone,
and everyone looks like me.
I wish to break free from my husband's grasp,
race through his finger tips like liquid,
and thrash freely around like water.
Feel orange,
see warmth.
But how can I?
For the black swallowed me up,
and spit me out dry.
