For Chee and Mcgee
Time was supposed to make me beautiful,
but something went terribly wrong
and I confused the word “catastrophe” with “tragedy”.
It was supposed to build,
and I was supposed to grow
tall enough to walk alone,
but I cling to you as each step weakens me.
You tie me down to a place duller than clouded skies,
but I can forgive you once my memory fades
and I dis-acknowledge everything you gave me
such as courage, introspection, and love.
I would surrender to you before God,
and It’s a shame because
you’re the reincarnation of Jesus
while I’m containing the frustrated mind of an illiterate poet.
How nice is it that we’ve met
only to leave one or the other with a broken heart
and a new set of dreams.
