Where I'm from
I’m from
asphalt playgrounds of boys chasing girls,
children’s laughter,
and
the pitter Patter of little feet.
I’m From
globs of tasty snow
And
leafless trees.
From
cars and the smog of gasoline clouds.
I’m from
schools,
and
kids my age.
From Uniforms
and
punctuality.
I’m From
teachers who loved bears,
And
walking on single-file squares.
I’m From
card board boxes with faces
And
a Scooby Doo lunch box.
I’m from
big yellow school buses,
a sudden quench of thirst,
those high school kids who yell profanity across seats,
statue games,
and Dairy Queen on good days.
I’m from
hills with rivers,
fire ants,
and
swimming pools
I’m from
hikes,
cats with cancer,
and
yellow jacket stings on the butt.
I’m from
bug hating,
poison ivy,
black widows,
silky webs,
and
the greenest grass.
I’m from
daddy long legs,
Pumpkins,
Watermelon,
tomatoes,
and
snowball fights.
I’m from
a knee height head,
curly cues,
floods,
and
climbing trees.
I’m from
the earth that brought me here,
and
the souls from way back when I was young.
