Addiction
Addiction is my family
It is my friends
Addiction, it seem,
Is my only affliction
I hear people say
“Everyone has an addiction”
The only people who say that,
Are those under its control
Hello addiction
Shame to meet you
You are my mother
My father, my brothers;
Over half my friends
You are my nation, my people
I hate you
And you hate me
I resist your spells, your temptations
Though every moment is a chance for you
Against you I am useless
Against you I am nothing
My words meaningless, unheard or unheeded
My opinion is heard on any subject
Generally it has some effect
But if I ask of you to leave,
I am judging aren’t I?
If I tell your minions my wishes,
I’m being judgmental am I not?
I know not the power of your steel grip
Your minions remind me of this when I talk of you
I have felt your soft calling
Your subtly-acidic sweetness
I have however
The power of will to resist;
To persevere despite everything else
Telling me to embrace you
Just leave I ask of you, just leave
And maybe things can be better
No. they will be better
People will hate me for it;
But it is either you or me
And If I must
I will die fighting you
