Horizon
If I could ride on the back of horizon
I’d slip off and let the sun
Drag me back to where I came from.
Reach my arms out as far I could
And beg those stars to notice me.
Cut the rope that separates the night from day
And run around with reality.
Create a noose for the hopes and dreams
That they all decided were too big for me, and
Let love decide which ways I look.
I’d rap that noose around my finger
So I can remember.
Your name and where you came from.
I’d let you know just how I feel by
Cutting paper hearts to string
Across your absent mind.
Tickle hopelessness with the hairs of the wings
Protruding from my spine, yet
I am afraid to let go of ecstasy.
Reach what I know I’m capable of
Despite what voices and minds of age old
Scholars and poets decide.
Because I am evening.
If I could ride on the back of horizon
I’d gather the courage to climb
Mountains and race with butterflies.
And I’d cut out the soul from behind your eyes,
Because it’s so cold.
Lifeless.
And I’d use it to carve out
The rest of the faces of humanity.
Faces lacking eyes so they can’t see who I am.
Because see, your mark so impacted me,
That I felt there was no room to
Set my own self free.
And I could cry for you,
But crying would be too easy.
Tears would not alleviate the pain;
They’d only sting
Like poisoned rain.
That’s what they are.
Inner ex-feelings become outer currents
And reoccurrences and
I drown you in them.
Sorry.
If I could ride on the back of horizon
I’d cling to the moon,
Dodging bullets and patching holes.
Those holes they call stars.
Maybe the man on the moon was
Mad at the sky.
I swear he could use a friend.
And I’d dance with him
But he might hurt me.
Slit my throat and
Hold my blood to Gods nose,
And he’d smell my desperation.
For you.
Hold me captive in a prison with
Undecided angels and demons.
And I’d be a prisoner
To the words unspoken
Because clearly the paper hearts
Were not enough.
And every time I tried to resurrect you
With my pen
My paper bled.
For you.
My mistake.
But you don’t need an eraser
When you’re writing with a pen.
Like actions, words can never be erased,
Only rewritten again.
Because what’s done is learned.
Yet there are those days
Where I wish I could take
Every word that I say and
Tie it to a string.
Let it bounce around
Hug the ground
And kiss the crescent backs of
All those listening.
Before making the journey into the mind
Where it can never be redefined.
But maybe if I rub really hard I can
Fade that mistake I just made…
And maybe I can tie that noose
Around your finger in hopes that
You’d try to remember to the point of
Near insanity.
Because you can’t remember.
Remember?
If I could ride on the back of horizon
I’d sell my soul to the one worth receiving it.
Preferably the no name face without
Seeing abilities
So no one would know that it was me
Behind cold, lonely personality.
I’d rip off the sweetest of kisses from my lips and
Hold them up to God and say “here, taste it.
Give it to the man on the moon because I hear
Dancing is not his specialty.
Let it bounce around
Hug the ground
And kiss the crescent backs of
All those listening.
Including him.”
If I could ride on the back of horizon.
I’d take the sun and let you taste it, and
Live the life I’d rather live
Because for you, anything is worth giving.
