I Drew a Blue Heart
I drew a blue heart,
Where there once was no love,
For myself or others,
My own heart was shut off,
Not letting anything in or out.
I drew a blue heart,
Where the scars kept appearing,
One after the other,
Self-inflicted yet out of my control,
Like a balloon about to pop.
I drew a blue heart,
Where I usually kept hidden,
All day and night,
Not wanting anyone to see,
What I’d been doing behind closed doors.
I drew a blue heart,
Where the scars are now fading,
My skin is tougher than before,
And although the heart will wash off,
The scars will stay with me forever.
I drew a blue heart,
Where there was no blue only red,
I could mix the two and make purple,
Paint my own heart with color,
Thus, not forgetting the past but also knowing
There is love.
