Who I Am
I am from the woods, from guns and ATV’s.
I am from the fireplace glowing, and shimmering in my living room.
I am from the hanging tree stands, the rose garden.
I am from hunting and outspoken, from Dave and Pinter and Bootz.
I am from socializing and food fights.
From “stop hitting your sister” and “where a helmet.”
From going to church for weddings and funerals.
I’m from Wisconsin and Germany, steak and crab legs. From the cousin who grew up, got married and had a kid and the grandpa I didn’t get to see.
I am from the piles of pictures locked away in the closet.
From my grandpa’s ring and World War II knife.
From the grandpa I never met, but will not forget.
