Behind Green Eyes
Behind green eyes
I see the moon. No,
There is no sun, just the moon.
Behind dark hair I see the sky
And with the wind
I try to fly.
Behind your arms I see nothing,
For to remove them
Would remove everything that’s anything.
Behind my smile they see the truth;
Behind every picture
There’s a wilted root.
What do they know?
A crooked smile is not false,
There is no pain in an unfinished verse.
I smile like this because I’m with you
And it’s hard to grin when my lips
Are directed toward yours.
The verse is unfinished
Because it’s hard to speak the truth,
When all that’s left to say is that I love you.
Behind closed eyes, could you guess what I see?
Through the night you set me free.
