I Wonder If They Knew
I wonder if they knew
If they knew they’d be on a bronze plaque
On the wall of an American Legion
If they’d see the horrors
Or land six feet under
If we’d cry for them
Or if when they answered the call
That the
Nazis
Japs
Charley
Or the kamikazes made
Or when they were placed in a box
And a flag was placed above
I wonder if they knew
That we were going to lose
The ones that let us
Live here
And live free
