Darkness
As I lay here
I see the dark close in.
It surrounds me.
Traps me.
Suffocates me.
I’m here drowning in my room.
My screams cant be heard.
My failing attempts to wake up
don’t succeed.
I feel the sweat rise on my forehead.
I feel the goose bumps pop out of my skin.
The images in my head flashing by so fast
I only catch glimpses.
Finally I wake up.
I wake to
the sun,
the birds,
the sky.
But I sleep with
the darkness,
the nightmares,
the horror.
If only I could change
my dreams
then I wouldn’t have to
hide my fears.
