Drinking Hocley
Tongue shriveling from mountains of salt,
Having just eaten some sesame beef,
Thirsting for gallons of
Quenching cold fluid
Is that a water fountain?
Sighting the thirst-ceasing source
Racing down the hallway,
Glancing at a pile of tired equipment,
Entering a miasma of
Choking odor,
Eyes tearing,
Vision clouding,
Lungs coughing,
Throat gagging,
Stomach seizing,
Body bending,
I hold my nose.
Hitting the button and holding it down,
Sipping the arc of glistening water,
Tasting sweat,
Inhaling armpits,
Swigging sweat socks,
Gulping jerseys,
Swallowing undershirts,
I sip not water, but hockey itself.
