i would rather be...
i would rather be anywhere but here...
under the shimmering stars, on the hood of your truck.
with tears spilling out of my eyes, making puddles on the rusted red paint.
fingers laced in a promise made so long ago...one that means nothing in a moment like now.
the full moon, a whole in the sky's dark blanket is our only witness.
to share the burdens i am to ashamed to speak aloud.
i would rather be anywhere but here...
when your flowerpetal hands tilt my chin towards your face, daring me to lie.
and when the truth comes i am buried in your chest as you catch each tear that shakes my entire being.
you tell me it will be ok.
i would rather be anywhere but here...
telling you that it's too late.
and watching your reaction as you realize the girl you thought you loved is no more than a monster.
but worse..when your eyes fill back up with the undying love you have for me...
and like so many times before, you try to rescue me
i would rather be anywhere but here...
as i realize that this time it's not enough.
that something between us has changed forever.
what we once shared, i destroyed out of fear.
and we will never get it back.
i would rather be anywhere but here...
as i realize that i can't stay.
and the bitter sweet kisses that burn my lips rain over me as you realize what i'm saying
and then i leave you behind
on the hood of your truck
watching the moon and waiting
for my tears to dry...
