Close to my Heart but Never Forgotten
I am from the house on the corner and banana flavored chap stick/ From homemade pasta sauce and first swim pictures/ I am from countless weddings and sets of threes/ From my Blue's Clues notebook and playing school/ I am from weird stocking stuffers and yearly Father's Day ties/ From dinners outside on the deck and finding red pickup trucks in the garage.// I am from Giants blue cars and Jimmy Buffet on vacations/ From long drives to North Carolina and matching itchy red dresses at Christmas/ I am from Slurpees after church and holiday dinners turning into political debates/ From never sleeping without Barney and being called my sisters' names/ I am from crab cakes and a never-ending supply of cut ice pops/ From tea with Grandma and singing Happy Birthday on the phone to relatives.// I am from messy playrooms and Hello Gabrielle cassette tapes/ From getting candy at CVS and boogie boarding in the ocean/ I am long awaited visits with cousins and winning a million tokens in Wildwood/ From wanting to be a giraffe and being Mary in my pre-school play/ I am from Care Bears wallpaper and my three special blankets/ From millions of Barbies and never getting out of the pool.// I am from too many pies at Thanksgiving and getting hyper after Oreos/ From the tiny tree on the front lawn and constantly going to Fridays/ I am from my cat all over town and helping Blue and Steve find the clues/ From diner triops with grandparents and hand-me-downs/ I am from coming in when the streetlights came on and Magic Attic Club Dolls/ From pink ribbons and endless hope.// Through all the times that will never be forgotten/ With everything that has happened and what might happen tomorrow/ I will never forget the things I've learned/ No matter where i go in life/ I will always keep these memories close to my heart/ I will never forget where I came from.//
