When We Were Little
Do you remember,
When we were little,
and differences
didn't matter?
And we didn't care,
what was on the outside,
and instead we listened
to what everyone had to say?
Do you remember,
when we learned
that everyone was different,
because that's what made us so special?
But we must have forgotten,
Because we don't value character anymore.
We no longer understand
that we are different.
The word special
has become an insult,
And we somehow do not realize,
how much it would hurt,
to be alone,
just because we are different.
We are cruel because we have forgotten
how to listen.
And as you smirk and say
that someone "isn't normal"
I wonder
"What is normal?"
Because I have not forgotten,
When I was little
and when I learned
that I live in a world,
where everyone is different.
Don't you remember,
When we were taught fairness?
When we learned not to judge people,
by how they look,
but instead
by what they have to say?
Don't you remember,
when it just didn't matter
what people seemed like on the outside
because we knew
character came from the inside?
Don't you remember,
when our differences didn't matter?
I remember.
I have not forgotten.
