Flown Away Too Soon
You slipped away when I closed my eyes
Tip-toed out the door and turned the lock
You didn't look back
Spreading your arms, you flew
Met James Brown at the golden gates
At a quarter 'til noon with a gleam in your eye
You chimed, "I'm home."
We whispered, "Farewell."
No more danger or strife
Safe, you are, from harmful hands
In the land of love
There you are
I slumber at noon without you
Your magic lingers like a stranger in the dark
The morphine of my life
Flown away too soon
I wake to find you out of my life
The sheets are still warm from where you slept
The boogie is gone
But The King lives on
