Nature's Molting
The trees shed their leaves,
shed their feathers.
Left behind are the skeletons of spheres.
Lying upon the earth,
like hot coals they are lit,
and they burn.
Flames subside and reveal the cremated remains.
Autumn,
a season of change,
of metamorphosis,
will give way to winter and later to spring,
when new life the scorched earth will bring.
