I trusted my thoughts to the postal service,
Knowing they would deliver them to you safely,
But it's been weeks and I've had none of your own
Slipped into my mailbox.
Perhaps you have lost command of the
Legions of letters waiting at your fingertips,
Perhaps they became deserters.
Or maybe my note never reached you at all
And is now in the hands of a
Confused restaurant owner in Vermont.
It could have been lost in transition,
The mail carrier accidentally dropping my message,
Where it was quickly covered by snow,
Only to be discovered in the spring thaw.
Or maybe you have simply lost interest,
My dearest,
But I hope that isn't so.
I hope this is only a case of miscommunication,
Like a Shakespeare comedy, only real and not as funny.
That the only reason you have not responded is that
Your eyes have not yet seen my
Crossed-out and heartfelt words.
Because I am here,
Eternally waiting
For your reply.
Please write soon.
