I Celebrate Myself
I celebrate myself
To the days I have been living
And the days I will be gone
I am who I am and nothing more
But I can become anything
I hear the sounds of the crowd cheering
I feel the cold wet grass beneath me
I know where to stay and where to run
Who to cover and who to not
I see the ten other players on the field
I am a soccer player
I see my welcoming family when I come home
I know they will always be there when I fall
I hear my dog barking at nothing
I feel the warmth of my home
I am a daughter
I hear the keyboard clicking
I see my paper filling with word after word
I know what my assignment is
And how to accomplish it
I am a student
I run to hug my friend
I haven’t seen her in forever
I feel her warmth surrounding me
I hear her laughing, and me laughing
I know we will stay friends forever
I am a friend
I celebrate myself
To the days I have been living
And to the days I have been gone
I am who I am and nothing more
But I can become anything
