Alice
I lay here and I dream
Well, I think I am dreaming
I can’t be dead because
I still feel where I’ve lain
On my arm wrong (unless of
course I am dead and
can’t really feel anything)
I think therefore I am
Dreaming (or I think therefore
I am remembering when I had slept and
Dream’t)
I dream (or maybe remember) I am
Standing (possibly laying) in a room.
A room lined with clocks (What a waste
Of space)
“Tick-Tock,” says the clock to another
Clock across the way
“Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock,” answers the
Other clock
I laugh at this strange way of
Communication
“TickTockTickTock” yell the clocks
At this disturbance
“Tick-Tock,” says the grandfather clock
In front of me (It wasn’t there a second
Ago)
His hands run across his face
As if confused by this strange
Girl
Without a doubt these clocks
Didn’t know any proper English
So I tried to answer in
Their native tongue.
“Tic-Tick-Tock,” I answer the clocks,
Feeling proud for this small feat
Rrrrring!
I sit up
“Alice!” My mother’s voice rings out
To me “You’re going to be late!”
I look over at my desk the
Clock reads 7 o’clock
I lay back down and close my eyes
Not wanting to get up
Wanting to return and talk to the clocks
“Tick-Tock”
Says the clock
“Wake Up”
