"Forever My Love"
At first he tried
To fix his eyes between the cracks in the mirror
To get a good look at himself
To comb his fingers
Anxiously
Through his sun drenched satin hair
To straighten the tie she gave him
To straighten his gaze
That wandered
Forever
When he thought of her
But the cracks proved too distorting
So he moved back from the mirror
Hoping he looked perfect
For her
He stood in the dazzling sunlight
Forever
Looking for the perfect flowers
None came even close
To matching her radiant beauty
But she loved sunflowers
So he closed his eyes to breathe them in
To breathe her in
All the years
All the time
The peaceful passion of
Forever
In the deepest breath
To see her
To hold her hand
And see her smile
That would be enough
Forever
And so he walked
Through the squeaking gate
To place the flowers
On the grass that covered
Her radiant beauty
Under the epitaph
“Forever my love”
