If I Were Not I
My feet would stumble,
My heart would crumble,
If I were not me.
My eyes would see the rind
and I wouldn't be blind
If I were not I.
My hands would aim to kill
and I'd take more than my fill,
If I were not I.
My lips would yell curses instead of sing prayers,
By night I'd be lost of all hopes and all cares
If I were not I.
My life would be forever, but meaning it would lack,
Just a runner once again 'round an endless track.
If I were not I.
Beautiful scenes would pass me by,
and to myself I'd lie,
If I were not I.
And now you can see,
that I is such a good person to be,
So me shall try to be I.
