Cracks in the Street MAG
I wish the cracks in the street weren't wide enough to trap an unwary child's foot
I wish the saxophone playing two windows down slipping
through shoddy cracked drywall
would grow louder
and as it blared,
dancing people would spill into the streets
howling like the wind
bouncing like hailstones
I wish dreams from another life
would drip down into my living room
like when my upstairs neighbor
left the bathtub running
and for once
the only happiness audible
wouldn't be radiating from
the sitcom laugh track
on a crappy
15" television from 1989.
