Crumble, Then Rise
Oh,
Because our worlds
Crumble -
They crash
They burn.
Life
Passes us by,
Slips through
Our wanting fingers
Like sand
Like salt
Like sugar.
We are alone
As we crumble,
Feeble as we
Are.
We think our
Hope is
Strong.
We lie
Through smiling
Lips
As we tell ourselves,
Each other,
That the Apocalypse
Shall not come,
Not soon
Anyway.
Our worlds
Ourselves
Our lies
Crumble
Into nothing
And afterwords
Everything is still.
Nothing dares
To move
Lest we
And our worlds
And our lies
Explode
Like a star
Caved in
On itself
Out of
Defeat.
Gently, though,
Gently an angel
A butterfly
A whisper of hope
Comes and
Puts the puzzle
Back together
And lifts it up
For all to see
For suddenly
We are beautiful.
Our worlds
Shine
Our fantastic lies
Become real truths
We as imperfect people
Become as perfect as
A cloudless day
A starry night
A love so fearless
And strong.
Carefully
Lovingly
They raise us up
From our crumbled graves.
Thankful
And lovingly
We try to return
The favor.
