Wilderness
I.
The geese have gone
to circumnavigate the globe
in long black V's
And silent threads
of longing fill the air
for powerful wings
a call of your own
and the gleam of moon on feathers.
II.
The instinctive mind
draws close the corners of time
unfettered
by racing cars or falling stocks
It knows
the wind and rain
and long black ships of storms,
it knows
the clouds and soaring lightness.
It knows the trees
and twilight's glimmering haze
the calls of herons and
the rumblings of bears
the song of waterfalls
in timpani thunder
the quiet prairies and
the heavenly lights.
