Summer Companions
Bird that hunted
Gathered prey with its beak
Encircling it, I dare not make a sound
Hiding in the shadows, I attempt to be sleek
Observing nature, I met the gentleman on a weltering noon
My interest immediately pique
When he walked in the clearing, breathless I went
In awe of his angelic features, I hoped he did not think me meek
His eyes wild like a forest fire
And his smile had left me numb and weak
He glanced my way with a smirk
I barely held my squeak
For when he did turn towards me
I was hiding and he was to seek
In the end we conversed for days
All our secrets, we did leak
Examining the cardinals
And kissing above rocks on the creek
His company beautiful
We were one; so unique
Frenzy in our touches
And adventuring all things freak
Gazing at stars and binding our souls
Quickly passed the week
Time was soon to say goodbye
Standing upon the mountain peak
Maybe it was love
Or a summer romance, so to speak
