Masks
I wish you could see the real me,
The one who isn’t afraid to be.
Different masks wherever I go,
I barely know the real me myself.
I look in the mirror
And who do I see?
Someone people want me to be.
I please who I can
And act different around others,
Fearing I won’t be accepted for me.
Masks at dance,
Masks at home,
Masks wherever people roam.
I can’t be me
But can’t you see?
All I want to be is free.
I’m not sure how I want to be seen,
I never know just who I’ll be.
A dancer, a singer,
But never truly me.
Who can I possibly be?
Believe me,
I love being a dancer and singer,
But I never know who I really am.
A different mask,
For different people.
How can I be me?
When I don’t even know who I am
Without the mask?
