These Memories
These memories
Summer days
Summer daze
Walking over
Playing in the backyard
Lemongrass and lemonade
Meetings in the treehouse
Slip n’ slide
Putting on our silly plays
Then fall arrives
Time for school
Our busy weeks
Come to a pleasant end
Friday night dinners
And weekend events
You made the hard stuff
So bearable
The wind begins to chill
And suddenly winter is here
Making Christmas gifts
And decorating trees
Throwing little parties
Our first sleepovers
And the write-down-your-secrets game
When spring has sprung
Still having fun
Jumping in puddles and
Playing outside in the rain
Pretending to be indians
Or pioneers
In our land of
Make-believe,
Hide-and-go-seek
Around the block,
Playing tag and
Climbing in trees
Next thing you know,
It is summer again
We are a year older now
But we never grew up
The year starts over
And with you,
I hope it never stops
These memories
They haunt my heart
With the experiences of the past
And the question of the future
These days have come and gone
Dead,
But still alive
In our remembrance
