"Remember what they say. 'There's no shortcut to a dream. It's all blood and sweat, and life is what you manage in between."' -Lyrics from "October" by Broken Bells

The casket
is lowered
into the ground
Tears fall.
Heads droop.

Flowers are thrown
onto the tomb.
People turn and walk away.
They've had enough.

I glance at my father.
He's crying.
Sobbing.
The look
in his eyes
sends shivers
to my heart.
Pain.

The right words
escape me,
so I hug him instead.
I want to help.
I feel useless.

My dad looks at me.
"I love you,
don't forget it."
He says.

"I love you, too,
dad. I'm sorry."

And the casket
is lowered
into the ground.
Tears fall.
Heads droop.

This poem was written after my grandfather's funeral. It's one of my older pieces, so it's not very good.
