What is poetry to me?
It’s jumping in the pool with all your clothes on,
Getting wet and lying on the warm concrete to dry off,
A beautiful rainbow after a thunder storm,
Spending the whole day in your PJ’s,
Jumping on the beds at a furniture store and getting kicked out,
Eating ice cream and getting your hands all sticky,
Standing in the sun all day and then pouring a cold bottle of water on your head,
Seeing a friend you haven’t seen in forever,
Making a little kid laugh just after they were crying,
Telling scary stories in the dark,
Waking up on a Saturday morning,
Running in the rain,
Reading in the middle of the night,
Hearing someone laugh after you just told a really stupid joke,
Crying for no reason,
Getting to light all the candles in the house when the power goes out,
Walking around in your socks when you’re not supposed to,
Sticking your hand in mud,
Walking barefoot in the sand,
Getting on a roller coaster and feeling that rush of adrenaline,
Hearing the engine of a Mustang GT race by,
A guitar solo,
Poetry is the voice that must be heard.
