Catching Minnows
It was quite ironic, really.
The creek tumbled and rolled along its banks,
The birds sang in their sanctuaries, unseen.
The three of us there
Laughing
Not really, but putting on quite a good show.
She stood there,
smiled,
He did the same.
Though,
His smile made my stomach knot,
Hatred is an ugly feeling,
A sickness not easily cured.
But no,
I didn’t hate,
Couldn’t,
Wouldn’t allow myself.
No,
I was simply
Uncomfortable.
Yes, I thought,
That would make a lovely explanation.
So I laughed.
Not really, but putting on quite the show.
