Alone
Drowning
I tried to save you but
The bubbles coming from your feet
Blurred my vision of the water
As you fell in sinking circles.
Reminisce
How could everything once be so simple?
Kick, glide, pull, you said to yourself
In gentle rhythms
Sink or swim, sink or swim
Glide
Through the water, barely a ripple
Perhaps ocean torrents, I could not know
Was it a terrible miracle?
Losing yourself, forgetting yourself
In this substance lighter than air
Dive
Deeper now, you thought, a lullaby
A song
Like 10,000 leagues under the sea
Touch nothing, feel nothing
But the freezing,
Rushing water
Bring
Me back to the times when we saw
The little bubbles gather on top of raisins
Just physics
I wonder if that comforted you
Sink low enough and you just
Might come back up again, a different Titanic
Feel
The runny sun beating down on you
The rhythm
The voices, alone
Surrounded, lost. Nothing but
A trick of light, in the water, the wind
Look
Up and realize that he is staring
Down at you so deep, drowning, gasping
Close to the shore,
It had been me, all along
Alone in vast expanses of time and space
