The only Exception
For so long I walked on
thinking I was complete in myself
in my loneliness
that solitude was the only partner
I could ever have
That I should be known fully
only to myself
for no one deserved trust
so complete and utter;
it simply wasn't worth the risk
to find someone
who would know me, yet love me
for all my secrets
all the fabrication
and not want to change me...
Yet now that I know you
I want to risk who I've become
The perfect cloak thar I wear
I want to strip off
I want to show you who I really am
I want you to know me the way
nobody ever could;
Crave my heart
and it'll be bleeding truth
in your hand...
I want to reveal myself
Yet I can't;
Courage is something I had sapped out of myself
When I chose to recede into the shadows
as the merest observer
But now, you've breathed the courage back into me
And you're the only exception
who in the amusing bewilderment
that is a perpetual state of your life
became so much to me
without even meaning to...
Whatever happens now
I know that
I have lost the choice I made;
I will never be able to
walk on alone.
