echoing sound
of airplanes from afar
the rushing of water
in a fountain in the distance

under the protection
of a tree's shadow
the cool summer breeze
blows against me

the rough bark
against my back
the traveling roots
beneath my stiff frame

and the softness
of the brown mud
that begins to sink
beneath my own feet

between the roots
and in the mud
beside my toes
sits a baby

only two leaves
grow upon its stem
green and new
the wind blows cold

the small green baby
newly grown
small and fragile
falls against the breeze

the wind blows
the trees sway
leaves fall
and life gives way
