One Night in Montmartre
There amidst the pallets and cloth,
He stands each evening
Waiting for not a soul
In the trodden streets
Only once in his lifetime will a passer-by
Take notice,
As soon arms do grope and hold
And eyes give way to conflagration
And the two pledge eternal devotion
For one precious evening
