Once </3
The piercing pain of rejection
Cutting deep, drawing blood.
The hot ashamed tears
That threaten to flood.
I try to act like I'm fine
But the wave of hurt is too strong;
It pulls me down hard
And I'm under too long.
I'm gasping, sputtering, choking
Your acceptance, my desperate need;
Heartache leaks into my lungs
And takes root like a weed.
The stifling weed begins to spread
At an unbelievable pace.
My hands hang at my sides
Though they once caressed your face.
My pink lips are turned down,
Though they once smiled for you.
My once bright gleaming eyes
Now a dull faded blue.
The smile, color and life
quickly leaked out
with each tear that I cried.
For all the perfect times now in the past,
For the times I now refer to as once,
And for our love that has died.
