Tokens of Gone
There is a room
and it contains:
a playboy poster,
hung over a bed,
a drawer full
of baseball hats,
a giant stuffed bear,
red and blue sheets.
They belonged
to someone.
Now, they sit,
dredged in the memories
that hide in that dark room.
A ghost runs his
fingers over the items,
leaving a faint feeling
of loss to all others who touch it.
But no one does,
because a sadness rises
up in them,
through their throats,
and out their eyes.
And because the items
no longer have an owner.
They are alone.
Resented by all;
tokens of gone.
