Should have listened
The blue eerie ocean lapped my feet
Once, twice, three times
But it always went back fast
Leaving no signs of my foot prints
It keeps growing higher on me
The Indigo nail polish I applied last night isn’t visible anymore
My bare feet are sinking slowly but surely in the tan wet sand
The sparkly water is trying to pull me in
He’s a kidnapper
He steals people’s lives
My mom warns me to stay away
Because anyone in his grip he pulls in
Until they’re in the heart of him, the abyss
She says none of them live
his pull is too strong
But I stay clear of her warnings
I keep going
The water is up to my ankles
Drenching my anklet
Soon I’m up to my knees
My white summer dress teasing the water
Only an inch off the surface of the water it flows freely
Just when I think it is safe I keep walking at the same height of water
An unexpected wave bigger than me comes up
He eats me up
I’m lost in all the water
I lost my breath
My only chance of living
when I wasn’t prepared
Soon he pulls me out and I grow further from the land
All I can think of in that panic is
“I should have listened to my mom”
