12 Miles
Moving to a town
12 miles away,
May not seem very far,
Shouldn’t cause such dismay.
But 12 miles is 12 too far
Keeping me from you,
And all the little things
I love that you do.
1 mile away from that grin
That keeps me warm on cold nights,
1 mile from how on game day,
You look like a pro, under bright lights.
1 mile keeping me from the looks we shared –
Those looks that stay in my mind for days after;
1 mile quieting the jokes and pick-up lines
That turns my smile into uncontrollable laughter.
1 mile away from the arms that wrap me up
And make me want to melt, they feel so strong.
1 mile from the discussions about music
Exact lyrics for how we feel; trading songs.
1 mile distant from the place
Where we had our first kiss, and I first felt whole.
Another mile apart from those deep brown eyes
That let me see into your soul.
A mile stretching thin the secrets we share,
Will you remember the little things I whispered to you?
1 mile keeping my fingers from intertwining with yours,
Our hands stuck together with love as the glue.
1 mile away from the endless possibilities
Of what we could be, where this could go
1 mile from all the things about you
That I don't yet know.
We've only begun to see
Who the other really is
When the distance
Comes between us.
Now we'll never know
The miles of things
We could have known
About each other.
But maybe I'll see you at the grocery store.
