To Fail
You said it would be better to try and fail a thousand times
Than wonder at what could have been
You said “Don’t give up!
Hold your head up high,
This is your chance at greatness,
The one you’ve dreamt so long about.”
But I’m just so tired,
my back is hunched from bending over books
and long late nights, cramming facts in
for a parade of tests and quizzes that pave the path to success
and I start to doubt myself, and the strength I possess
They said I was crazy that in the end all I’d have is disappointment
They laughed at me, said it would never come true
But you boldly held on to my dream, and tied it down with all your hopes in me
You told me I could have everything
But of course it would come at a price
So I will not regret my failures, the time spent and lost
Because this is something that I must do
For all that you’ve done, I thank you
For giving me the courage to believe in me
