She and Me
I sit in a chair
Attached to the desk
By a metal bar.
She sits the same way
Across the room from me.
Our eyes meet,
And she looks away
Me blushing with guilt
At being caught.
This is socially acceptable.
This is even normal.
So why do I feel
Such guilt?
Why should I have to worry
About being caught
And shunned
And called names?
I suppose it’s a moot point anyway.
(she already has a girlfriend-
I can see them, now, in the hall,
Holding hands and being accepted
By everyone else.
Why can’t that be me?)
