The Valiant General
Through fire and snow and ice he goes,
Through rat-tat of guns and lands thick with smoke.
Past pirates and and armies and legions all stark,
Through heat of the sun and cold of the dark.
Beneath skies that outbreak and winds that destroy,
Goes the valiant General with a mighty “Ahoy”!
With sword as sharp as the mind and the eyes-
Cut through the stones, the wars, the disguise.
Hard and long goes his robust stride;
Not one burly horse does he fight with or ride.
He jumps high as walls and slays through the maze;
He dazzles in the sun and glows in the haze.
With sinews and scars half-hidden in silver,
He gallops boldly to the little town of Dover.
Swoon and smile, the maidens, the children,
As he bows and waves to his good ol’ kinsmen.
With faster steps, goes he to where his humble house lies
As broadsword glints like the core of his eyes.
Takes up li’l Jimmy, he, kisses his Dame-
The Valiant General is mightiest again!
