I Keep Dancing
I stand, frozen
twisted limbs
arched feet
straining every muscle
and still looking graceful
ten thousand thoughts race through my still, silent head
as I wait
and then the curtain opens
and I release my rigid pose
and dance,
my feet beating out the rhythm
telling a story so complex
in a language written long ago
twirling, bending, stretching,
the air is full of silent music
an entire orchestra in my toes
and then the music stops;
the last violin quivers and is silent
the curtain sweeps closed
but the music in my feet
keeps playing
