Poem 3
I used to starve myself
Not
“Ahh! A coughdrop!”
But I did
occasionally
dump out
the peas
in my daily Ramen.
and collect vials
as big
as serving sizes.
My mom, the nurse
forgot
to empty
her pockets after work.
I stacked and numbered
the morphine
and hydromorphone into
skyscrapers
I was the architect
of a city
where
I’d be perfect.
