The Unsung Hero

My friend, virtually nobody knows of your true identity
And I mourn this fact so intensely.
They call you the little squiggly dash,
Or “that thing next to the 1”
But I, yes I, know the truth, and it has set me free.
For you have helped me create my own identity
As I sign off with a flourish on my various endeavors,
You help me wrap up like a dedicated pair of mittens
You are the true unsung hero of this world.
Oh yes, I’m talking about you
Yes, you, ~ the tilde.
