These Precious Things
Who gave you the right,
The privilege of dreams?
Who taught you the notion of love,
And what made you come to wait for it?
Who gave you that precious thing,
That you use to wipe your tears on
And has become soiled?
Why is it that you say you care for it?
When you leave it out for anyone to touch
With hands filthy and diseased.
Who gave you these precious things?
Not God I hope.
For a hypocrite might well be a sinner.
Who gave you these precious things?
Not your family I hope.
For such intimate sinners are prone to lies.
Who gave you these precious things?
Who do you curse?
