Do you know?
Do you know who I am?
Of course you do.
I am the little girl who pleaded for your song
Who climbed upon your shelves and danced upon your kitchen floor.
I brought you a bouquet of wild dandelions and scrub grass
I conversed with your possessions
And I begged to touch your heart
That was so well kept from me.
But you don’t know who I am.
My bare feet pound the sidewalk
And my imperfect music fills my room
And my tears feed only my own pillow.
Why have you been left alone?
Do you want me now?
Now that this stranger is grown
Could she fill what you fought to keep empty So long?
I dance. I create. I cry. And I plead.
But never for you.
